Taylored Expressions: My Favorites Continued…

Happy Friday Crafty Friends!

Today, I am sharing a project created with some of my favorite Taylored Expressions products. Every other month I will be selecting products that stand out to me and create a new project with them! Please share, too, if you create any projects using some of your favorite TE products!

Here in the Midwest, Spring lasted just a few days and then…just like that…the Summer heat rolled right in! Wouldn’t we all love to travel and relax on the beach watching the beautiful sunset instead?

Taylored Expressions: Celebrate You

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Today I will be sharing a card I made using Becky Fleck’s CardMaps card sketch featuring wonderful Taylored Expressions products. PageMaps is celebrating their 12th year anniversary!! How awesome is that?! Taylor and the TE Creative Team have collaborated with Becky to bring you beautiful projects inspired by her wonderful CardMaps sketches. To check out all the sketches and interpretations, visit CardMaps, HERE. A lot of talent and awesome card ideas!

Here is my take on the CardMaps card sketch I received.

Small disclaimer: I used A TON of TE products to make this card. My goal was to match the card sketch as best I could with the products TE has to offer. To my surprise, there was a lot! To keep this blog post short and simple, all the products I used are listed below. 🙂

To be honest, my first impression of the card sketch was slightly intimidating, but then after thinking it through…it just challenged me to be creative in ways I’m not used to. Thinking outside of the box can be a great thing!

I decided to go with a birthday theme because everyone can use a birthday card! First, I picked my color palette based off the TE “April Release Color Combo Inspiration” download (found HERE). What’s neat about this color combo chart is that it was heavily inspired by Taylor, herself, along with her Creative Team. Therefore, all these color combinations look amazing together. Great FREE download to have in your craft room if you’re having a brain fart with picking color combinations.

Based off the CardMaps sketch, I found lots of TE products (again, listed below) to make this card have a similar layout. I love how the TE “Lucky Stars” stamp & die combo fit perfectly with the TE “Bold Balloons” die set.

This card has lots of techniques built into it, therefore, I will lay it out one by one so that one may get a better idea of how I put this card together.

1.) Stamp positioner technique: I used my MISTI in order to stamp the stars in different colors. Having the TE “Lucky Stars” stamp in the same position, it allowed me to use different color TE inks all at once!

2.) Dry emboss technique: After stamping the stars, I used the coordinating die to perform a dry emboss technique. This allowed the stars to have more dimension to them!

3.) In-lay/Shaker technique: Once the stars were stamped, I used the TE “Bold Balloons” (circular balloon) to die-cut in between the bottom right four stars (to mirror the CardMaps sketch). I inlaid the balloon shape to the card base, which then allowed me to pop up the front, add acetate, and turn the balloon shape into a shaker element!

4.) Dimension/heat embossing: One may not be able to tell from the picture, but the middle star is stamped and heat embossed with TE fine detail embossing powder (silver). This adds one more “umpf” to the middle star, which goes along with the sentiment “celebrating you” (emphasis on you, singular). In addition to heat embossing, I added glossy accents to the “you” word die-cut to make it shiny and dimensional.

5.) DIY banner: If one does not own a banner die, you could create your own to fit the sentiment you intend to use on your card. I stamped the word “celebrate” with TE Oreo ink, then I cut with my scissors around the word to make a thin strip. Once the sentiment was a thin strip, I cut both ends into a fish tail. From there, I scored twice on each side to be able to fold the ends back to give the look of dimension while also matching the banner on the CardMaps sketch.

6.) Tone-on-Tone stamping: Since the CardMaps sketch had a design in the background, I decided to use the TE “Color Me Background” stamp to do a tone-on-tone design. Love creating subtle touches that really make a difference in the end!

7.) Ink splatters: I smushed TE Oreo ink and a tiny bit of water onto a laminated piece of paper. Using a small paintbrush, I flicked the ink off the edge of the laminated piece of paper onto my project. This allows me to control how big or small I wanted to make the ink splatters as well as where on my projects I’d like my ink splatters.

Holy schmoly! Lots of techniques built into one card. What can I say? I love, love, love techniques and I can’t help myself sometimes! Ha! I hope you have enjoyed reading about the various techniques I used to put this card together.

See you next time!!
